These unique wooden fish are handmade in Segou, Mali by the Bozo River Masters. Just one piece of wood can be hand-carved and hand-painted with Acajou paint to create these stunning pieces. The Bozo people, originally from Ghana, settled in Mali around the 10th century where they stayed dedicated to fishing and its related culture. Amazingly, these fish are used in multiple ways, making them more than just a work of art, they become a vital part of their celebrations! The fish are often used in dance troop performances as a drum, puppet or even a mask.
These wooden fish also come in a smaller size. For extra pics of a certain fish, please don't hesitate to email info@mayala-home.com. Sizes are noted in the product details.
