Handwoven Bicycle Basket with Tribal Pattern – Pink, Orange & Black – Fairtrade from Ghana
Add a splash of colour and culture to your daily ride with this striking handwoven bicycle basket from Northern Ghana. Featuring bold tribal patterns in vibrant pink, warm orange and deep black against a natural grass base, this basket is as eye-catching as it is meaningful.
Each basket is handcrafted by artisans from our partner weaving cooperative using veta vera grass – commonly known as “elephant grass,” an indigenous, sustainable material known for its strength and flexibility. The process is deeply rooted in tradition: the grass is split, hand-rolled, dyed with natural pigments in boiling water, and then carefully woven over the course of three days.
But this is more than just a beautiful bike accessory. Every woven bicycle basket tells a story of empowerment, craftsmanship and resilience. Most of the weavers are also small-scale farmers, living in areas where agriculture is highly dependent on seasonal rains. Basket weaving provides a stable source of income during the dry season, helping families meet essential needs while preserving an age-old skill.
When you choose one of our baskets, you’re not just adding a colourful piece to your bicycle – you’re becoming part of a larger journey. A journey of fair trade, sustainable living, and meaningful human connection.
Includes: Two leather straps for easy bike attachment
